Annual Food Drive for Holy Redeemer St. Vincent de Paul: Each fall our students at HolyRedeemerSchool host a food drive for our local St. Vincent de Paul Society. This year our PreK class will be in charge of the food drive. We ask all who can to participate by bringing in canned food items (no perishables please) to the school. PreK students will count and sort etc. At Thanksgiving break our items will be taken to the St. Vincent de Paul food bank in our parish. Thank you in advance for all who are able to support this tradition. The Food Drive will run from Monday, November 17th-Wednesday, November 26th.
St. Vincent de Paul group will be putting together 85-90 Christmas Food boxes for needy families this year. Recommended non-perishable items to contribute include: cans of green beans, corn, fruit, tuna, soup, pork & beans, chili, canned milk, boxed mac & cheese, canned pumpkin, cereal, stuffing mix, and beef stew.
Attention Bakers! We’d like to showcase your talents (and help the Parent Club raise money for the school) on November 16th at the parish Christmas Bazaar. We’re in need of a variety of baked goods to sell at this event. We would appreciate anything—cookies, candies, pies or breads. Items can be dropped off at Holy Redeemer on Saturday, November 15th between 1:00-3:00 PM. Note time change from last week’s newsletter. Please call or email Stephanie Justen if you’re able to participate (503-203-7939) or kjusten2@msn.com.
Help Needed for Annual Drive Phone-a-thon: We are in dire need of volunteers next week on Monday (Nov 17), Tuesday (Nov 18) and Wednesday (Nov 19) to help with the final phase of the Annual Appeal. This is a very important part of the annual Appeal. It is critical that we get volunteers to help with the calling. This counts for parent Share Hours and your required hours for fund-raising. Please contact Maria at maria.elmore@holyredeemerpdx.org or 503-283-5197 ext. 131.
Sally Foster Orders: Please be sure to verify your orders and notify the school office of any problems no later than Monday, November 17th. The school will not be held responsible for any discrepancies reported after this Monday, November 17th.

Holy Redeemer Shirts, Sweatshirts and Vest Order coming home SOON! Parents, several students have asked me when we will be placing another Holy Redeemer shirt, vest, sweatshirt order. I told them I would work on that soon. PLEASE WATCH FOR AN ORDER FORM FOR SHIRTS, SWEATSHIRTS AND VESTS WITH OUR HR LOGO. Hopefully it will be ready to go home next week. I will attach it to the newsletter for your convenience. We are also looking into selling cloth grocery bags with our logo in an effort to promote living green.
Remember---Safety of our Children is TOP PRIORITY! Parents, please help us keep your children safe by following the traffic pattern for dropping off and picking up each day. We are seeing short cuts being taken while in a hurry, including parking in NO PARKING zones and driving VERY FAST. We have seen several near misses particularly in the front of the school and we are concerned. We have requested the assistance of the police to come by periodically and monitor for safety. THEY WILL CITE DRIVERS NOT FOLLOWING THE TRAFFIC RULES!
Health Alert: Parents, there have been many incidents of Norovirus in the Portland area. Symptoms include: nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Please help to stop the spreading of this condition by keeping your children at home if they are ill. When children come to school ill they cannot help but spread their germs to others. We are hoping to disinfect classroom surfaces to do our part. Thank you for your cooperation.
CHILDREN’S PEACE FAIR: Hands on activities, live music, balloon animals, face painting and a new edition-the Fair Trade Marketplace will highlight this year’s fair to be held at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church at the Community Center on NE 8th Street off Alberta, on Saturday, November 22nd, from 12:30-3:30 P.M. It’s all free and lots of fun—all families are invited. Lots of art by Holy Redeemer students on display!
