It is the third month of school and things are moving right along in the Technology Lab.

 

Students are having a blast learning about our computers. Kindergarten students are familiarizing themselves with the keys on the keyboard as well as mouse skills. In the lab the kids often use partners to help teach one another. It is important for these young students to have reinforcement at home with keyboard and computer skills. One site that we use in the lab to teach keyboarding can be found online for free. BBC Dance Mat is interactive and fun.

 

I am quite impressed with our 1^st and 2^nd graders’ retention from last year. This is allowing us to move on to learn how to use more programs such as Microsoft Word. Students are using Word to practice typing skills but are also learning this vital program needed for their future education at Holy Redeemer. We will continue to develop their creativity through story writing and art using Kidpix. Tux Paint is a free online paint program similar to Kidpix. Please have your students visit BBC Dance Mat for typing practice at home.

 

All of these classes have been doing an extraordinary job in the Technology Lab. Students are also working with Microsoft Word but at a higher skill level. We hope to do some fun and interesting projects using Microsoft PowerPoint. I also encourage students to practice keyboarding skills at home. BBC Dance Mat is a free online program.

 

I am proud of the growth in each and every Jr. High student. They have shown up every class ready and willing to learn.
