Service is a key component of a Catholic education. Through service, students learn to view the Other as one like themselves and to see the face of Christ in those they serve. Service introduces concepts of Catholic social justice teaching and brings our community of students, teachers, administration, parents, parish, and community together for great fun! Learn more about service opportunities at our school and in our community.
Christian service is integral to Holy Redeemer. The older students "Buddy up" with younger students for Mass, serve as cafeteria helpers, and work school safety patrol. Students participate in annual schoolwide service projects such as sock, canned food, and penny drives. Classes are encouraged to initiate and promote services projects. Various clases write cards and leters to homebound parishioners and do other service for the parish through the year.
Social justice is incorportated in student learning in a developmentally appropriate way for each grade. It is a topic directly addressed at the middle school level, but is also integrated into both social studies and religion curriculm at all levels as students learn about different people and ways of living. Students learn about important social justice issues by studying people such as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. This is one of the ways that students learn about injustices that exist in our world. Students learn ways to care for the earth and its resources through assemblies on recycling and care of animals.
