Holy Redeemer has a rich history. In 1905 Archbishop Christie was in great need of priests in this fast growing Archdiocese. Fr. William Bond. C.Ss.R. was in Portland and Archbishop Christie invited the Redemptorists to establish a parishhere. In August of that year, the approval was given to purchase the property to build a church, convent and school. Fr. Edward Cantwell, C.Ss.R., was the first pastor of what was then the “Redemptorist Parish”, arrived in August of 1906. The first public Mass was celebrated on Sunday, Sept. 16, 1906. On Aug. 22, 1907 we became “Holy Redeemer”. The present church was built in 1926. The present rectory was built in 1910. The present school was built in 1952. A new school building, the first "green" building in a Cathlic School, was built in 2005.
